  1. The European Commission presented proposals on 20 and 21 January 2026 for new cybersecurity regulation and the Digital Networks Act (DNA). The cybersecurity package includes a proposal to revise the Cybersecurity Act and to amend the cybersecurity regulation known as the Network and Information Systems Directive (NIS2 Directive).

  4. On 21 August 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for legislation supplementing the EU Gigabit Infrastructure Act. The aim of the Gigabit Infrastructure Act is to speed up the construction of very high capacity networks. It is the aim of the European Union that, by 2030, all EU households be covered by a gigabit network.

  5. 25.9.2025 | On 25 September 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a legislative proposal on supplementing the EU Data Act. The Data Act has a key role in promoting the data economy. The aim is to promote access to and use of data widely across sectoral boundaries.

  6. 6.6.2025 | The EU Transport Council reached a political agreement on amending the regulations on air passenger rights on 5 June 2025.

  7. Finland’s Ministry of Transport and Communications published a Joint Nordic Strategy for Transport System Preparedness on 11 March 2026. The strategy was handed over to the Nordic transport ministers in Rovaniemi where the ministers also issued a joint statement. As part of their meeting, the ministers will also visit the multinational Cold Response 26 military exercise in Lapland on 12 March 2026.

  14. 27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.

  15. 21.11.2024 | On 21 November 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal to amend the budget proposal for 2025. The Government proposes funding for the Digirail project, which involves the modernisation of Finland's rail traffic control system, and several rail, urban tramline and road projects. The Government also proposes EUR 400 million for the construction of West Railway, subject to certain conditions.

  16. 12.5.2021 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications will start preparations for the designation of the National Cyber Security Centre operating under the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency as Finland's National Coordination Centre in the EU for cyber security matters. The new role would provide the Cyber Security Centre with more opportunities to support the information security sector in Finland.
