Rauli Paananen appointed as National Cyber Security Director

On 8 December 2022, the Government appointed Rauli Paananen, Master of Culture and Arts, as National Cyber Security Director. His term of office will begin on 1 January 2023 and last until 31 December 2027.

Paananen has worked at the Ministry of Transport and Communications as National Cyber Security Director since 1 April 2020. He was appointed for a fixed term. He has held senior positions also at the National Cyber Security Centre at the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency and previously at the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority. Before that he worked as Head of Information Security at the Ministry of the Interior.

The National Cyber Security Director coordinates and harmonises the national development, planning and preparedness of cyber security and serves as an adviser to the state leadership in cyber security issues.

The National Cyber Security Director reports directly to the Permanent Secretary and works in close cooperation with different actors in the government.

The post of the Cyber Security Director is based on Finland's Cyber Security Strategy adopted by the Government in 2019.
