Plans to offer financial support for purchase of gas-fuelled trucks
The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the plans to offer financial support for the purchase of gas-fuelled trucks. It is proposed that support be granted for purchasing or leasing new trucks of over 16 tonnes. The invitation for comments concerns the terms for granting the support.
The aim of the support is to promote low-emission heavy goods vehicles and the use of gas in transport. The amount of the support would be graded according to the purchase price of the vehicle and allocated to vehicles using liquefied gas (LNG) or compressed gas (CNG). An LNG vehicle could be granted a purchase support of EUR 12,000 and a CNG vehicle EUR 5,000.
The responsible authority in granting and monitoring the support would by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.
It is also proposed that the provisions on the scrapping incentive be repealed as unnecessary. Since 2018, no appropriations have been allocated for the scrapping incentive. The repeal is a technical amendment. Other forms of support will be assessed in connection with the road map for fossil-free transport, and a separate government proposal will be issued on those support forms.
