North European Functional Airspace Block to take effect in December
The Finnish Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the Agreement on the Establishment of the North European Functional Airspace Block between Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Norway (NEFAB) and the act giving effect to the provisions of a legislative nature included in the Agreement.
The goal of the Agreement is to increase flight safety, reduce environmental impacts and decrease costs.
These goals can be achieved through enhancing the use of the Contracting States' airspace by, for example, providing opportunities for more direct routes and greater route usability. Air traffic efficiency will reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
The Agreement will also reform the administrative structures of airspace and pave the way for the adoption of new technical solutions.
Where air passengers are concerned, the reform will be seen in improved punctuality and shorter flight times.
The airspace block will become operational in December. Establishment of the North European Functional Airspace Block is based on an EU Regulation.
