Ms Asta Sihvonen-Punkka to continue as Director-General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority

On 13 August 2015, the Government appointed Ms Asta Sihvonen-Punkka, Licentiate of Science (Economics and Business Administration), as Director-General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority. Her term of office will begin on 1 October 2015 and last until 30 September 2020.

Ms Sihvonen-Punkka has served as Director-General of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority, Ficora, since 2011. Before joining Ficora she worked as Director-General of the Energy Market Authority and as Deputy Director-General of the Competition Authority.

Ms Sihvonen-Punkka has been a Vice-Chair of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications, BEREC, since 2014 and a member of the BEREC Board of Regulators since 2011. From 2008 to 2011 she acted as the Chair of the EU working group on electricity markets.

Ficora operates under the Ministry of Transport and Communications. Its duty is to monitor and promote the Finnish communications markets and services. It also ensures that the communications connections in Finland are versatile, well-functioning and secure. Ficora employs around 240 people.
