Juhapekka Ristola to continue as Director-General of the Communications Policy Department
On 28 April 2011, the Finnish Government appointed Juhapekka Ristola, Master of Laws, as Director-General of the Communications Policy Department for a fixed term. Ristola's term as Director-General will begin on 1 June 2011 and last five years.
Juhapekka Ristola (b. 1969) has served as the Director-General of the Communications Policy Department since October 2010. Prior to this he served as Director of the Ministry's Communications Networks Unit. He has served with the Ministry since 2002.
The Communications Policy Department is comprised of the Communications Networks Unit and Media and Communications Services Unit. The Communications Policy Department mandate includes communications network legislation, information security and data protection issues, promoting the availability of communications services, spectrum policy and legislation concerning radio and television broadcasts. The Department is also responsible for issues concerning postal services and the press as well as setting performance guidelines for the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority.
