Finland and Russia discussed frequency issues in Helsinki
The Finnish-Russian working group on frequency management has discussed the details of making the 800 MHz frequency band available for broadband use. The working group met on 9 December in Helsinki.
In the meeting, Russia reported on its decisions regarding the development of LTE broadband networks in the 700 and 800 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency bands.
Finland and Russia have this year concluded coordination agreements on the use of the 800 and 900 MHz frequency bands.
Other issues discussed in the meeting included increasing the frequency capacity of the @450 broadband network and the related frequency coordination that is required between the countries and developing a shared measuring system for measuring the limit values set in coordination agreements.
The working group on frequency management operates under the Finnish-Russian Commission for Economic Cooperation.
Minister of Housing and Communications Ms Krista Kiuru considers the long-term and fruitful communications policy cooperation between Finland and Russia valuable.
"Cooperation between countries is needed especially in the field of spectrum policy. Because radio frequencies cross the borders, coordination is always required between neighbouring countries to enable the interference-free use of frequencies," Ms Kiuru said.
The Finnish delegation was led by Director-General Mr Juhapekka Ristola, and the Russian delegation was led by Mr Juri Zhuravel from the Russian Ministry of Communications and Mass Media. The delegations also included representatives of telecommunications companies from both countries.
