EU member states agreed on the mobility package
The Transport Council of the European Union reached a general approach on proposals of the mobility package relating to combined transport and to market access and social aspects of goods and passenger transport.
Negotiations were complex and included several rounds. The decision was reached in the night between 3 and 4 December 2018.
In the Council meeting, Finland was represented by Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner.
The agreed compromise will harmonise the regulation on commercial goods and passenger transport in Europe.
What next?
In order for the provisions to be adopted, negotiations with the European Parliament will be needed. The Parliament has not yet decided its position on the proposals.
According to the proposal, the mobility package will enter into force in June 2020.
