10.2.2006 | Finland and Germany have opened a call for proposals for projects for the so-called Motorway of the Baltic Sea. The intention is to discover projects that would improve land and sea transport connections through the ports of these two countries. Funding for the approved projects can later be applied from the European Union.

9.12.2020 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has sent for comments a draft action plan on legislation and key measures supporting the development of automation in the desired direction. The main point is to develop and increase transport automation that meets human needs.

The Decree will enter into force on 1 January 2019. The decision on the roads and railways selected as the arterial traffic routes was made on the basis of the current and projected traffic volumes.

More than half of the measures are the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. EUR 31 million will be allocated for improving the Karelia rail line in northern and southern Karelia and in Kymenlaakso. A EUR 13 million project to repair the railway bridge in Syrjäsalmi will also be implemented in 2023.

15.10.2020 | Finland's goal is to halve emissions from transport by 2030 when compared against the level of 2005. On 27 October 2020, the working group appointed to prepare a roadmap for fossil-free transport will publish its recommendations on how to achieve this goal efficiently and fairly. Aalto University, for its part, will present the results of a study dealing with the impacts of the emissions trading system on income distribution.
