3.12.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will meet in Brussels on 4 and 5 December 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

28.5.2025 | On 28 May 2025, the Finnish Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament regarding the European Commission’s proposal for the so-called Roadworthiness Package. In principle, the Government supports the proposal’s aim to promote road safety and reduce the negative environmental impacts of transport.

The driving licence reform was not found to have a significant impact on the number of injuries sustained by young people aged 15-20.

14.1.2021 | The legislation on vehicle approval and market surveillance has been revised to bring it into line with the amended EU regulation. In the future, the Vehicles Act will only lay down provisions on the approval of new vehicles and equipment belonging to national vehicle categories and on their market surveillance. These categories and equipment include motorised work machinery, off-road vehicles, studs and studded tyres.

The electronic application would be a free, optional service to be used in addition to traditional driving licences.
