3.12.2025 | The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will meet in Brussels on 4 and 5 December 2025. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

5.3.2026 | On 5 March 2026, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Act on Transport Services, Driving Licence Act, Act on the Organisation of Driver Examinations and Act on the Enforcement of a Fine.

17.6.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. The aim of the project is to further specify the EU regulation concerning road cabotage and make the regulations easier to comply with and supervise. In addition, the project promotes the use of vehicles powered by alternative fuels with a total mass not exceeding 4,250 kg in goods transport.

9.10.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal that would amend the Act on Transport Services and certain other acts. The draft proposal aims to improve the operating conditions of the transport sector. Comments may be submitted until 19 November 2025.

2.4.2025 | The Legal Committee of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) met in London on 24–28 March 2025. The meeting discussed measures to prevent illegal operations by vessels belonging to the shadow fleet. The Committee approved a proposal co-sponsored by Finland and many other countries to conduct a Regulatory Scoping Exercise to further develop actions to prevent unlawful operations in the maritime sector.

22.5.2025 | On 20 May 2025, the European Commission published a delegated regulation that creates a separate vehicle sub-group for extra-heavy combination lorries to the EU’s CO2 emission performance standards regulation for the calculation of CO2 emission targets of vehicle manufacturers. Finland was active in influencing the process in advance to define extra-heavy combination lorries (EHC).

19.8.2020 | Finland, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Japan, China, Korea and Singapore have launched a cooperation network to develop the Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships in ports (MASSPorts). The first meeting arranged by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on 4 August 2020 was also attended by representatives from IMO, International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), and International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH).

Among other things, the legislative reform aims to promote the availability of broadband networks and communications services as well as the consumer rights and the accessibility of the services.

10.11.2022 | On 10 November 2022, the State of Finland will publish its reply to the European Commission regarding the complaint pursued by Sanoma Media Finland Ltd against YLE. The reply is the fifth that Finland has submitted to the Commission in relation to the complaint.
