12.6.2025 | The Government proposed stricter legislation concerning micromobility on 12 June 2025. The amendments to the Road Traffic Act and the Vehicles Act would enter into force on 17 June 2025 and the amendments to the Act on Transport Services and the Act on the Transfer of Vehicles on 1 August 2025. The aim of the proposal is to improve the safety of electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles.

The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom allocated 3.5 million euros in grants to a total of 12 projects. 28.8.2019 | On 1 August 2019, the Commission of the European Union notified Finland of the Finnish legal provisions on lightweight vehicles. The Finnish provisions are meant to enter into force in the beginning of November.

23.3.2018 | The Government adopted a resolution on promoting walking and cycling on Thursday, 22 March. In support of the resolution, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has published a more detailed programme on promoting walking and cycling. It is the first government resolution on promoting walking and cycling to which several public operators and organisations have committed.

How to improve the preconditions for increasing walking and cycling across Finland? The Ministry of Transport and Communications will establish a National stakeholder forum for walking and cycling for the present government term. The first forum will be held on 7 September 2020.
