23.1.2013 | A working group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, charged with drafting an air transport strategy for Finland, is examining the current state of Finland's network of airports and the associated development needs.

6.2.2015 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is putting forward more than 50 development policy ideas for the development of air transport and airports in its air transport strategy for 2015 - 2030.

17.12.2013 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications launched the drafting of an air transport strategy in September 2012. The strategy is due for completion in late 2014. The working group appointed to prepare the strategy gave an interim report on 17 December after reaching the half-way mark in its work. Above all, the interim report is a review of the work completed so far, with a particular focus on the airport network and the service level of air transport.

5.10.2015 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications' work concerning the status of the Helsinki-Malmi Airport has now come to an end. According to decisions made in 2014, the government shall withdraw its operations from the Helsinki-Malmi Airport by the end of 2016. In January 2015, the Ministry of Transport and Communications responded to the Chancellor of Justice's request for a report on the preparation of the decision to shut down the Helsinki-Malmi Airport.

29.4.2011 | Passengers arriving from outside the EU and transferring onto a connecting flight continue to be required to carry duty-free liquids exceeding 100 millilitres in the hold of the aircraft. Liquid containers of 100 millilitres or less can be carried in hand luggage.

15.9.2009 | The Government proposes that as of 2010 the Finnish Civil Aviation Administration Finavia will become a company limited by shares that will be wholly owned by the state.

28.4.2009 | The Cabinet Committee on Economic Policy supported in its meeting of 28 April 2009 the Ministry of Transport and Communications' proposal of incorporating the Finnish Civil Aviation Administration, Finavia, as of 1 January 2010. The business activities currently managed by the Civil Aviation Administration will be transferred to a new company limited by shares that will be wholly owned by the state.
