The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will meet in London from 27 April to 1 May 2026. IMO Member States are expected to decide the next steps in negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. 22.12.2025 | On 22 December 2025, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has ratified decrees, supported by the Finance Committee, which define the fees for Traficom’s services. The decrees will enter into force on 1 January 2026.

24.10.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has submitted draft decrees concerning the fees charged for the services provided by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom, the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute for comments. These decrees would replace the current ones, which will expire on 31 December 2025.

3.7.2025 | The European Commission has awarded EUR 91.01 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to nine projects in Finland. Of this, around EUR 59.60 million will go to government initiatives.

21.11.2024 | The Government proposes that on 22 November 2024 the President of the Republic approve the acts for establishing the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre.

10.10.2024 | The Government proposes funding for the establishment of the Finnish Space Situational Awareness Centre. Funding is proposed for the administrative branches of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The Ministry of Transport and Communications share of the funding amounts to EUR 411 000.  

19.12.2024 | Finland’s Central Government and other operators are applying for a total of approximately EUR 73.36 million in financial support for 11 transport projects from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport. In addition, EU funding is being sought for the acquisition of a new icebreaker. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 19 December 2024.
