19.9.2022 | The Government proposes that the application periods should be extended for the purchase subsidies for electric and gas-fuelled vans and trucks. In contrast, the application periods would be shortened by three months for the purchase subsidy for fully electric cars, i.e. battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and the conversion subsidy for passenger cars, as the Government has not allocated an appropriation for these schemes for 2023. The application periods would close on 31 December 2022.

11.2.2019 | The high purchase prices of electric vehicles and challenges of charging in housing companies are currently slowing down the development of the electric vehicle market and public charging infrastructure and the natural growth of the electric vehicle base. A cost-efficient way to accelerate the market would be to introduce more electric vehicles to the vehicle base, but this will require effective promotion measures in the next few years.

31.5.2022 | The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications organised a round table on the green transition in heavy transport on 30 May 2022, to hear the views of various interest groups on the needs of heavy-duty vehicles and heavy transport in general when transport is moving towards a fossil-free era. The discussion also focused on the current situation in the fuel markets, EU legislation related to fuels and vehicles as well as forms of support that promote the green transition in heavy transport.

The most important alternative fuels and their distribution network must be developed with a focus on the special needs of each transport mode, says an expert group in its preliminary study report about alternative propulsion systems for transport.

25.1.2013 | The European Commission submitted a programme and proposals for legislative instruments on 24 January 2013 on the use of alternative transport fuels. Finland has been expecting the EU proposals and preparatory work at the national level has been underway during the past year.
