The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft proposal for a new act on facilitating the introduction of very high capacity networks. Comments may be submitted until 29 April 2025.

25.11.2016 | Constructing a telecommunications cable between Europe and Asia via the North-East Passage would be politically and technologically feasible, says a report presented to Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner by Paavo Lipponen and Reijo Svento. If the project was carried out, the cable would significantly speed up telecommunications between Europe and Asia and respond to the increasing capacity needs. It would also benefit the national economies in Europe, Russia and Asia.

She will take part in a panel discussion at the end of the four-day conference. The discussion will focus on future transport research in Europe.

Minister Berner will also take part in Open Innovations forum, which this year focuses on digitalisation.

The issue came to public light in December, when it was reported that numerous EU Member States had observed military planes the transponders of which were turned off and to which no radio contact could be made.

30.12.2015 | An agreement between Finland and Russia on cooperation in icebreaking services will enter into force on 15 January 2016. The Finnish Government issued a decree on enforcing the agreement on 30 December 2015.

30.12.2015 | On 30 December 2015 the Finnish Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to adopt an agreement concerning direct international rail transport services between Finland and Russia. The agreement was signed in St. Petersburg on 28 April 2015, and the European Commission approved it on 5 August 2015.
