A working group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications has started its work to promote 6G communications technologies. The aim is to prepare a national 6G roadmap and to encourage cooperation and exchange of information in the field of future-generation wireless network technologies. 7.5.2026 | On 7 May 2026, the Government submitted for approval amendments to the Act on Transport Services, the Driving Licence Act, the Act on the Organisation of Driver Examinations and the Act on the Enforcement of a Fine. The amendments aim to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. On 17 June 2026, the European Commission published the annual State of the Digital Decade report. According to the report, Finland is a digital frontrunner with strong digital skills, agile enterprises and leadership in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. On 7 July 2026, the Digital Decade Board published its opinion ‘A common orientation for the review of the Digital Decade Policy Programme’. The Assembly of the International Maritime Organization IMO will meet in London from 24 November to 3 December 2025. Finland is a candidate for re-election as a member of the IMO Council. Next, the proposal will be reviewed by the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis, translated and submitted to legislative editing. The EU Transport and Telecommunications Council will convene in Luxembourg on 8-9 June 2026. The Assembly of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will elect a new Council for the forthcoming two-year term in November-December. Finland is seeking re-election to the Council. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has invited Finnish maritime education institutions to serve as advisers to the Finnish delegation at the Assembly. On 25 June 2026, the Government submitted a proposal to amend taxi legislation for approval. The aim is to increase trust in the taxi services sector. On 25 June 2026, the Government adopted a national programme on distribution infrastructure for alternative transport fuels. The programme, originally published in 2024, has been updated in line with recommendations from the European Commission.
