Proposal for transport policy report to be circulated for comments

Proposal for transport policy report by the Ministry of Transport and Communications has been sent to interest groups for comments. Comments are requested by 12 March. The report sets out transport policy guidelines and the associated action plan until the end of 2022 as well as a vision and desired state for transport policy for 2030.

The report examines issues of transport policy in accordance with the Government Programme with particular focus on the preconditions of land use, housing, service structures, sustainable development and economic and regional development.

Among other things, the report outlines principles for the funding of the transport sector and traffic management, issues specific to large and expanding urban areas and preparations for greater traffic volumes from Russia.

The contents of the report have been prepared in 12 subprojects involving experts from ministries central from the viewpoint of transport administration and transport-related matters. The preparation for transport policy report has coincided with the activity of several other working groups, the conclusions of which are addressed in the report on a generic level only.

The report is prepared under the steering of the Government's ministerial working group on transport and communications policy led by Minister of Transport Merja Kyllönen. The work of the ministerial group is supported by a group consisting of public servants. In addition, the interest groups of transport administration have participated actively in the preparation of the report.

The transport policy report is scheduled to be submitted to the Parliament in April 2012.
