Negotiation groups to promote large-scale rail projects

The Ministry of Transport and Communications will launch negotiations to establish project companies for the one-hour Helsinki-Turku fast rail link and the Finland Railway line. The project companies would be responsible for the planning related to the projects and for its funding until the construction phase.

The Ministry asked the municipalities and other interested parties to appoint their representatives to the negotiation groups promoting these rail projects by 10 October 2019.
 

Participants in the negotiations concerning the Finland Railway project company:

Finavia Oyj, city of Helsinki, Helsinki Region Transport, city of Hämeenlinna, municipality of Janakkala (to be confirmed later), cities of Jyväskylä, Lahti, Lohja, Oulu, Pori, Riihimäki, Seinäjoki, Tampere and Vaasa, Ministry of Finance, city of Vantaa and the Transport Infrastructure Agency.

Participants in the negotiations concerning the one-hour Helsinki-Turku rail link:

Cities of Espoo and Helsinki, Helsinki Region Transport, cities of Lohja, Salo and Turku, Ministry of Finance, municipality of Vihti and the Transport Infrastructure Agency.

The negotiation groups will begin their work as soon as possible. Due to the nature of the matter, it is not possible to set a specific deadline for the work of the groups. The aim is to conclude the negotiations in 2019.

In the negotiations, the basis for the planning of the rail transport projects will be discussed. This includes the route alternatives prioritised by the parties and the targeted service level.
