Ms Ulpu Iivari has been appointed State Secretary to Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications, Susanna Huovinen.
Ms Iivari, 58, started her career as a journalist and has previously been General Secretary of Finland's Social Democratic Party, a Member of the Finnish Parliament and a Member of the European Parliament. Most recently she has been Senior Political Adviser at Eurofacts Ltd, a communications consultancy company.
Ms Iivari will take up her new duties on 8 January, and will hold the position of State Secretary for a period not exceeding Ms Huovinen's term in office as Minister of Transport and Communications.
Ms Huovinen's present State Secretary, Perttu Puro, is taking parental leave and will transfer to other duties in the spring.
