The Finnish Government has appointed Mr Juhani Tervala Director-General of Transport Policy Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The Transport Policy Department is responsible for traffic safety and for developing transport systems and networks. Its duties also include logistics, vehicle regulations and environmental issues in transport.
Mr Tervala (56) is a Master of Science in Technology. In September 2006 he became Director-General of the Ministry's Administration Department. Before joining the Ministry in 1992 he worked with the Finnish Road Administration.
Appointment to the post is for a fixed period of five years, until the end of 2012. Mr Tervala will take up his new post on 1 January 2008.
