Minister Ranne in Brussels: Finland’s roads, railways and icebreakers are part of EU’s critical infrastructure
Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will travel to Brussels on 24–26 February 2026 to meet key representatives of the European Parliament and of the European Commission.
“We have worked throughout this government term to ensure that EU funding for 2028–2034 is channelled into the infrastructure projects that matter most for our comprehensive security and strategic competitiveness. We will keep at this work until the very end. Finland is a frontline country for both the EU and NATO in the north and in the Arctic regions, so it is essential that attention and funding increasingly come our way,” says Minister Ranne.
“It is in the interests of the entire EU to improve Finland’s accessibility and military mobility. The EU must invest in critical infrastructure rather than in projects that are unnecessary or economically unviable. For Finland and the EU, critical infrastructure includes cross‑border land connections in the north, key routes for military mobility and security of supply, and icebreakers. Their role must be recognised in the next financial framework,” Minister Ranne continues.
During her visit, Minister Ranne will meet Finnish Members of the European Parliament and representatives of key parliamentary committees. She will also hold meetings with representatives of the European Commission.
