A Ministerial Round Table that was held in connection with the ITS Europe 2014 Congress in Helsinki adopted a statement about more user-oriented transport policy. The aim is to provide the users with tailored and interoperable transport services that meet the varying needs of everyday life.

"I am particularly pleased with the new direction in mobility and transport services that we agreed on at the meeting. In future we will develop the transport system in closer cooperation with the users and between the public and private sectors", said Minister of Transport and Local Government Henna Virkkunen.

Minister Virkkunen believes that there will also be more information available for the users to support their mobility and travel planning. That way they will also have more chances to influence the costs of their mobility.

She hopes that the joint expression of will places Europe in the forefront in transport services.

"It will also open up entirely new business opportunities for Finland, which is a country of high technological expertise. This is exactly what we need right now. I believe that Finland can act as a platform for the development of these services", Minister Virkkunen says.

She expects that with an unbiased attitude and implementation of the required legislative changes all this will become reality already in a few years time.
