On 6 June, Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka will attend the inaugural event of the OECD Global Forum on Technology in Paris.

Minister Harakka will chair a panel discussion on the digital and technological divides.

“The digital divide in the world is really wide.  Not everyone has equal access to communications networks and to the opportunities offered by technology. It is essential that we seek solutions to bridge this digital gap,” Minister Harakka says.

He will also take part in the concluding discussion of the Technology Forum’s inaugural event.

An agreement to organise the Forum on Technology was reached at the OECD Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting in Gran Canaria, Spain, in December 2022.

In 2022, Finland ranked first in the European Commission’s annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI) and has been among the top countries on the list for several years. The DESI index monitors the progress of EU countries regarding their digital performance.
