Laura Vilkkonen appointed Director-General of the Data Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications

Ms Laura Vilkkonen, 47, Master of Laws, has been appointed Director-General of the Data Department at Finland's Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Government announced the appointment on 16 June 2016. Her term of office will begin on 1 September 2016 and end on 31 August 2021.

Ms Vilkkonen has worked as Director of the Basic Services Unit at the Ministry's Services Department since the beginning of 2016. Before that she worked as Director of Unit at the Communications Policy Department.

A Director-General takes part in the Ministry's management as a member of the management group, directs the work at the department and is responsible for effective operations.

The Data Department is responsible for matters relating to digitalisation and data resources, use of data in business and the right to data and information, service user security, privacy protection and confidentiality of services, service users' freedom of expression, identity management and electronic identification, and automatisation and robotisation.
