Future transport services in the Barents region to be discussed in Rovaniemi
The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Finland will host a high-level meeting of countries in the Barents region in Rovaniemi on 30 September 2015. The focus will be on future transport and logistics services in the region. Finland's two-year chairmanship of the Barents Euro-Arctic Transport Area, BEATA, will end at the meeting. The Finnish delegation will be chaired by Mr Jari Partanen, State Secretary.
An expert report on road transport corridors in the Barents region, including the related recommendations, was completed during the Finnish chairmanship and will be introduced at the meeting. In addition, a statement on guidelines of the joint transport plan for the region is to be adopted.
A Barents Region Transport Forum, which will take place in conjunction with the meeting, will be attended by Deputy Transport Ministers and State Secretaries as well as public and private sector operators from Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia. Among the topics to be discussed will be the development of intelligent transport and logistics systems and services in the Barents region.
At the Rovaniemi meeting the two-year chairmanship of BEATA will be handed over to Russia.
