Auction for the 700 MHz spectrum starts
An auction for the 700 MHz spectrum will start on Thursday, 24 November 2016. The spectrum to be auctioned can be used for the construction of 4G networks. The practical arrangements of the auction are the responsibility of the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority.
A total of six paired frequency blocks of 5 MHz each will be auctioned within the frequency bands of 703-733 and 758-788 MHz. No more than two paired frequency blocks may be allocated to any individual enterprise, organisation or association.
The starting price for a paired frequency block is EUR 11 million. If all the frequency blocks are sold, the state will receive at least EUR 66 million in revenues.
Information concerning the auction participants is not public. After the last bidding round of each day of the auction, the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority will notify in euros the total sum of the highest bids at the time. After the closing of the auction, the Ministry of Transport and Communications will announce the winners and the winning bids.
There have been two previous spectrum auctions in Finland. An auction for the 2.5 GHz spectrum was arranged in 2008 and for the 800 MHz spectrum in 2013.
