New Director-Generals appointed at the Ministry of Transport and Communications
The Finnish Government has today appointed Director-Generals of the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The appointments will take effect from 1 January 2016. The Corporate Governance Department will be headed by Mr Juhapekka Ristola, Master of Laws; the Services Department by Ms Minna Kivimäki, Master of Laws; the Data Department by Mr Olli-Pekka Rantala, Master of Social Sciences; and the Networks Department by Mr Mikael Nyberg, Master of Laws. Their term of office will be five years.
Mr Ristola has acted as Director-General of the Ministry's Communications Policy Department since 2010. Before that he worked as Director of Communications Networks Unit. He has also worked for Springtoys Oy as Administration and Business Director, and in the Defence Command as Legal Adviser.
Ms Kivimäki has been Director-General of the Ministry's Transport Policy Department since 2010. Before that she served as Director of Transport Services Unit. Ms Kivimäki has also worked as Counsellor responsible for transport policy affairs at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels.
Mr Olli-Pekka Rantala has served as Director of Communications Data Unit at the Communications Policy Department since 1 March 2015. Before that he has acted as Director of two units at the Communications Policy Department. He has also worked as Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels.
Mr Mikael Nyberg has served as Director of Transport Services Unit at the Transport Policy Department since 1 March 2015. Before that he has acted as Director of three units at the Transport Policy Department.
A Director-General takes part in the Ministry's management as a member of the management group, directs the work at the department and is responsible for effective operations.
In the new organisation, the Services Department, Data Department and Networks Department comprise the current Transport and Communications Policy Departments. The Corporate Governance Department engages in performance guidance of the Ministry's administrative branch and in the Ministry's financial and HR administration. The Ministry's communications will continue to operate as a separate unit.
