2.7.2026 | On 2 July 2026, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for amending the Private Roads Act. The amendments would simplify the administration and operations of private road maintenance associations, strengthen road shareholders' protection under the law and promote road safety on private roads. More broadly, their aim is to clarify, specify and harmonise certain provisions of the Private Roads Act.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal to amend the Private Roads Act. The proposed amendments respond to the needs identified by the authorities and courts applying the act, as well as to feedback from stakeholders. Comments may be submitted until 11 May 2026.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is requesting comments on an assessment memorandum examining the current need for amendments to the legislation concerning transport infrastructure. Comments can be made on the memorandum until 1 June 2025.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests views on a draft government proposal to amend the Act on the Transport System and Highways, the Rail Transport Act and certain related acts. 23.1.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications published a report on the administrative categories of roads on 23 January 2024. The report examines the concepts guiding the classification, the practical application of the concepts and the challenges in defining and changing the categories. The study was carried out by Wuutis.

27.11.2025 | On 27 November 2025, the Government proposed approval of a fixed-term act on scrapping premiums for passenger cars. The act will enter into force on 1 January 2026. Applications for a scrapping premium may be submitted to the Transport and Communications Agency Traficom after the entry into force of the proposed act.

3.7.2025 | The European Commission has awarded EUR 91.01 million under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to nine projects in Finland. Of this, around EUR 59.60 million will go to government initiatives.

7.5.2026 | On 7 May 2026, the Government submitted for approval amendments to the Act on Transport Services, the Driving Licence Act, the Act on the Organisation of Driver Examinations and the Act on the Enforcement of a Fine. The amendments aim to improve the operating conditions for the transport sector. Most of the acts and the amended decree will enter into force on 15 May 2026.
