1.4.2026 | The Government submitted its communication to Parliament on 1 April 2026 regarding the European Commission’s proposal for a Digital Networks Act (DNA). The Government supports the proposal’s aims to modernise and simplify regulation.

17.12.2025 | On 16 December 2025, the European Commission published the Automotive Package to promote the automotive industry’s competitiveness and support the transition to clean vehicles. The package includes several legislative proposals.

12.2.2026 | On 12 February 2026, the Government submitted three communications concerning proposals included in the European Commission’s Automotive Package to Parliament. On 30 January 2026, the Government also submitted a Europe communication regarding the Commission’s proposal to amend the EU Regulation on the CO2 emissions standards for heavy-duty vehicles.

7.8.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications is prepared to officially start the drafting of amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company to increase the openness of the company. The amendments are based on the Government Programme.

31.8.2021 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications organised a second discussion on electric scooters and their safety on Tuesday 31 August 2021. The event was attended by companies in the field, as well as representatives of the Finnish Road Safety Council, local authorities, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The event was a follow-up to the previous discussion held in July, during which the parties agreed on issues such as nighttime speed limits for electric scooters.

8.12.2020 | Two limited liability companies will be established for the design and planning of the Finnish Rail Ltd (Suomi-rata Oy) and the Turku One Hour Train Ltd (Turun Tunnin Juna Oy). The documents establishing the companies have now been signed. The Finnish Government owns 51 per cent of the shares in both companies.

14.2.2019 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications will establish a new limited liability company wholly owned by the state in the railway sector. On 14 February 2019, the Government authorised the Ministry of Transport and Communications to sign an agreement establishing the company and other documents relating to the establishment.

16.6.2025 | On 16 June 2025, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided that the central government would continue its preparations for the competitive tendering of publicly funded passenger rail services. The current contract with VR Group is due to expire at the end of 2030, with a new contract period of about ten years scheduled to start on 1 January 2031.

27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved an Act on legislation complementing the European Media Freedom Act, EMFA. The Act will enter into force on 8 August 2025. The EMFA aims to safeguard the pluralism and independence of media services in the EU and reinforce the common rules for the functioning of the internal market for media services.
