On 16 April 2026, the Government proposed that the amendments made to the international Convention on Road Signs and Signals be approved. The amendments will have only minor effects in Finland.

15.2.2017 | The total overhaul of the Road Traffic Act (Tieliikennelaki 267/1981) has transitioned to the statement phase. The regulations concerning action and behaviour in road transport have been compiled in the legal draft. With this renewal, the regulatory framework would be streamlined to replace the ambiguities and shortcomings of the old legislation as well as prepare road transport for rapid technical advancement and automation.

The amendments implement the Government Programme, EU regulations and regulations of the International Maritime Organisation IMO.

The process also includes updating the Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport and the regulation concerning vessel safety. The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft legislative proposal by 17 December 2020.

The objectives of the change include the improvement of the consumers' position, the promotion of both investments into communications networks and the availability of communications services as well as ensuring the security of communication networks better. The Government gave the proposal to the Parliament on Thursday, 11 June 2020.
