11.9.2019 | Minister of Transport and Communications Sanna Marin will open a high-level conference on airspace management on Thursday, 12 September 2019, in Brussels. The conference will be arranged by Finland's Ministry of Transport and Communications together with the European Commission. 12.11.2019 | The legislation on the delivery of waste from ships to ports will be updated. The aim is to improve the treatment and reception of waste in ports, which will reduce the generation of marine litter and, in particular, the discharge of plastic into the seas.

21.4.2020 | The Finnish Government has issued an invitation to apply for electronic communications licences for the purpose of providing telecommunications services within the 26 GHz spectrum (25.1-27.5 GHz). The spectrum can be used to build wireless broadband in mainland Finland using 5G technology.  

8.4.2020 | On 8 April, the Government issued decrees on the auctioning of the so-called 26 GHz spectrum and on amending the Decree on Radio Spectrum Usage and Frequency Allocation Plan. The Ministerial Finance Committee endorsed the adoption of the Decrees.

The frequencies are available to the telecom operators for the construction of high-speed wireless 5G networks from the beginning of July.

16.10.2023 | The EU ministers responsible for the environment and climate change issues will meet in Luxembourg on 16 October to discuss the EU’s objectives for the negotiations at the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Dubai. The conclusions to be adopted by the Environment Council will constitute the EU’s objective for the Climate Change Conference. Finland’s representative at the Environment Council will be Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen.
