Comments requested on draft memorandum on EU Data Act's national implementation
The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft memorandum concerning the national implementation of the EU Data Act. The deadline for submitting comments is 31 May 2024. The Ministry has also published a study, which was conducted by the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, on the markets covered by the Data Act in Finland.

Finland, Sweden and Norway enhance their cooperation to improve military mobility
On 30 April 2024, Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne, Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård and Swedish Minister of Infrastructure Andreas Carlson signed a joint statement on developing the transport system.

Nordic transport ministers to meet in conjunction with NATO exercise in Narvik
Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will visit Narvik, Norway, from 29 to 30 April 2024. Together with the Norwegian and Swedish transport ministers, she will observe NATO’s Immediate Response 2024 defence exercise, which will practise military mobility and reception of military support.

Government proposes waiving the must-carry obligation for radio
On 25 April 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The must-carry obligation for radio programmes would be removed from the Act, the provision on the revocation of radio licences would be amended and other technical amendments would be made.

Amendments to Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport circulated for comments
The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the draft proposal on amendments to the Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport and certain related acts. The deadline for submitting comments is 20 June 2024.

Fairway dues to be collected in full

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to restart the collection of fairway dues in full from 2025 onwards.

Government proposes approval of amendments to Road Traffic Convention
The Government gave a proposal to Parliament by which the amendments to the Road Traffic Convention would be approved and brought into force. The main objective of the amendments is to coordinate the International Road Traffic Convention with the current UN Regulations concerning lighting devices.

Government proposes amendments to Act on Electronic Communications Services
The Government proposes a number of individual amendments to the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The proposal would change certain temporary provisions to ones that are in force until further notice and would update the supervision tasks of the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom.

Minister Ranne: Changed security situation requires investment in digital infrastructure
On 11–12 April 2024, EU telecommunications ministers will hold an informal meeting in Louvain-la-Neuve at the invitation of the Belgian Presidency. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting.

Ministry of Transport and Communications joins Data Spaces Alliance Finland
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has joined as a founding member to the Data Spaces Alliance Finland cooperation network. The Alliance brings together the leading Finnish data business organisations. The network is composed of 22 companies, public bodies and research institutes.
