17.12.2010 | Finland and Russia have held negotiations on making the 800 frequency band available for mobile communications. As a result of the negotiations, Finland may begin the construction of LTE test networks within this frequency band.

11.6.2020 | The Government is proposing a reform to the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The objectives of the change include the improvement of the consumers' position, the promotion of both investments into communications networks and the availability of communications services as well as ensuring the security of communication networks better. The Government gave the proposal to the Parliament on Thursday, 11 June 2020.

13.5.2015 | The Finnish Government wants to extend the prohibition on marketing mobile phone subscriptions via telephone. The prohibition, which was originally set for a fixed term, is proposed to be extended by three years. The Government justifies the extension by the facts that the prohibition is functioning and that misleading sales have decreased.

5.9.2022 | On 5 September 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Communications sent out an invitation to comment a draft proposal for amending the Act on Electronic Communications Services. According to the proposal, the must-carry obligation would be waived.

8.4.2022 | The EU granted funding under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for the electrification of the Laurila-Tornio-Haparanda railway, the Oritkari wye in Oulu and Neste's electric vehicle (EV) charging project.

19.10.2022 | The Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU is hosting an informal meeting of EU transport ministers in Prague on 20-21 October. In the meeting, Finland will be represented by Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka. It will be an informal meeting where no decisions are taken.

13.9.2022 | The EU will provide funding of EUR 1.5 billion for the building of alternative fuels infrastructure, including electricity and hydrogen, in 2021-2023. Finland has been granted funding within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport programme for expanding the recharging network of electric cars.

18.2.2022 | The French Presidency of the Council of the European Union will arrange an informal meeting of transport ministers in Le Bourget, France, on 21-22 February 2022. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka and High-Level Representative Mikael Nyberg.

The most significant amendment is that in the future, aid could only be granted for constructing fixed connections.
