  2. Finland successfully influenced emission calculation of extra-heavy vehicle combinations - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    22.5.2025 | On 20 May 2025, the European Commission published a delegated regulation that creates a separate vehicle sub-group for extra-heavy combination lorries to the EU’s CO2 emission performance standards regulation for the calculation of CO2 emission targets of vehicle manufacturers. Finland was active in influencing the process in advance to define extra-heavy combination lorries (EHC).

  7. Cyber Security Strategy implementation plan published – cybersecurity integrated into comprehensive security - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    4.12.2024 | In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The objectives of the revised strategy extend to 2035. A strategy implementation plan has been drawn to describe the development measures to achieve the objectives. The plan was approved on 3 December 2024 by the steering group of the project developing an operating model for government security management.

  8. Finland stresses importance of EU cooperation in digitalisation of logistics - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    17.3.2025 | Finland participates in an EU project that aims to set up a European Digital Infrastructure Consortium where the focus is on mobility and logistics. The Ministry of Transport and Communications will inform Parliament about the next steps and timetable towards the Consortium with a Europe communication on 17 March 2025.   13. Comments requested on amendments to rail transport regulation: Extension for rail wagon procurements - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    22.1.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on a draft government proposal that would amend the regulation concerning rail transport. The legislative amendments would enhance the safety and security of urban rail transport and give an extension of time to the forest and chemicals industries for procuring rolling stock that meets the EU requirements.   14. Amendments to Act on Environmental Protection in Maritime Transport – prohibitions on discharges to enter into force gradually from next year - Ministry of Transport and Communications

  17. Funding for regional air services approved in Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    20.5.2025 | The Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided on 20 May 2025 to fully finance flight connections between six regional airports and Helsinki up to 27 February 2028. Air connections to the city of Savonlinna, however, will be funded out of government funds up to 50 per cent only. The decision is based on the spring 2026 government discussion on spending limits.
