  3. 27.6.2024 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the amendments to the Act on Electronic Communication Services and that the Act enter into force on 1 July 2024. The must-carry obligation for radio programmes would be removed from the Act, the provision on the revocation of radio licences would be amended and other technical amendments would be made. After a one-year transition period, the must-carry obligation for radio would end on 1 July 2025.

  7. 27.5.2024 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal for an act amending the Act on the Finnish Meteorological Institute and for an Act amending the Act on the Defence Forces.   9. 1.6.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has invited comments on the assessment memorandum concerning passenger rail services in the 2030s. The consultation period ran from 3 April to 19 May 2023. The memorandum provides a knowledge base for making decisions on the organisation of passenger rail traffic in the 2030s. The Ministry has received 75 comments.

  11. 7.8.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications requests comments on the draft government proposal on the temporary halving of fairway dues in 2024–2027. The deadline for submitting comments is 1 September 2023. Alongside this, the Ministry is launching a project to amend the Act on Fairway Dues in order to make the halving of the fairway dues permanent.

  12. 18.3.2024 | According to the Government Programme of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, competition in passenger rail transport services will be increased by enabling municipalities, joint municipal authorities and regions to arrange outsourced services. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to make the necessary changes in legislation.

  16. 10.11.2022 | On 10 November 2022, the Government submitted a Union communication to Parliament on the European Media Freedom Act (MFA), outlining Finland's positions on the Act. Finland as a rule supports the aim of the Act to harmonise the legal framework of EU Member States in the media sector to enhance the functioning of the internal market and to promote media freedom.

  17. 19.12.2023 | Representatives of the EU Member States, Parliament and Commission have reached a provisional accord on a regulation concerning Union guidelines for developing the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The regulation will define the TEN-T network, legislating on such aspects as quality requirements for highways and transport nodes. The accord was achieved in tripartite negotiations on 18 December 2023.

  20. 22.9.2022 | A permanent public post of National Cyber Security Director will be established at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The Government approved a decree amendment concerning the Ministry of Transport and Communications on 22 September 2022. The decree lays down provisions on the qualifications required to fill the public post of National Cyber Security Director.
