  2. 16.5.2024 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve amendments to the Rail Transport Act and the Act on Transport Services. The amendments to the Rail Transport Act concern the investment-based raise to the basic railway infrastructure charge.   6. 13.6.2024 | The State and the shareholder municipalities of West Railway Ltd – Turku, Espoo, Salo, Lohja, Vihti and Kirkkonummi – have been negotiating on the terms and conditions of the pre-agreement which will enable the transition to the construction phase of the West Railway. Helsinki, which was involved in the planning phase of the project, will not take part in funding the construction phase.

  8. 19.6.2024 | Finland has won the European Transport Safety Council’s (ETSC) Road Safety Prize for 2024. The prize was awarded for the long-term and effective road safety work and the comprehensive strategy and measures to improve the safety of all road users. This is the first time Finland receives the prize.

  13. 13.3.2024 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne visited the Nordic Response 24 defence exercise in Lapland on 10–11 March 2024. Minister Ranne learnt about the activities of the Defence Forces, Nordic cooperation between the authorities and NATO-Nordic defence cooperation from the infrastructure perspective.

  16. 27.6.2024 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the amendments to the Act on Electronic Communication Services and that the Act enter into force on 1 July 2024. The must-carry obligation for radio programmes would be removed from the Act, the provision on the revocation of radio licences would be amended and other technical amendments would be made. After a one-year transition period, the must-carry obligation for radio would end on 1 July 2025.

  18. 22.8.2023 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications invites comments on the government proposal for amending the Act on Electronic Communication Services. The proposal would implement the amendments to the Radio Equipment Directive harmonising the charging of mobile phones and tablets, for example.
