  2. EU reaches preliminary agreement on ship-source pollution directive, scope of environmental regulation to be extended - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    29.2.2024 | On 15 February 2024, the Member States, Parliament and Commission of the European Union reached a preliminary agreement on amendments to the Directive on Ship-Source Pollution and on the Introduction of Penalties for Infringements. The aim of the amendments is to improve the protection of the marine environment. On 28 February, the provisional agreement was discussed in the Permanent Representatives Committee of the Member States (Coreper).

  3. International Maritime Organization continues negotiations on actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    30.9.2024 | The Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization convenes in London from 30 September to 4 October 2024. The 82nd session of the Committee continues the negotiations on global actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from shipping. The topics include the package of a possible fuel standard and a price for carbon emissions.   4. Government grants radio programme licences in supplementary application round – New operator enters market - Ministry of Transport and Communications

    7.11.2024 | On 7 November 2024, the Government granted radio programme licences for a new nationwide frequency block 26, and for 20 individual frequencies in a supplementary application round. Licences were issued to different parts of Finland, including to local radio broadcasting operators.

    25.4.2024 | On 25 April 2024, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Act on Electronic Communications Services. The must-carry obligation for radio programmes would be removed from the Act, the provision on the revocation of radio licences would be amended and other technical amendments would be made.

    22.1.2024 | The European Member States, Parliament and the Commission have reached a provisional agreement on a regulation on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs). The emissions reduction targets for new heavy-duty vehicles will gradually tighten and the scope of application of the regulation will widen. The accord was achieved in tripartite negotiations on 18 January 2024.
