1.11.2019 | Minister of Transport and Communications Sanna Marin has appointed a working group to prepare a climate and environmental strategy for the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. The term of the working group will be from 1 November 2019 to 30 November 2020. The aim is to form a common view on the climate and environmental impacts of the sector in Finland and recommend measures to control them.

28.10.2020 | The German Presidency of the Council of the European Union will hold an informal video meeting of transport ministers on 29 October 2020. State Secretary Pilvi Torsti will represent Finland at the meeting.

13.9.2022 | The EU will provide funding of EUR 1.5 billion for the building of alternative fuels infrastructure, including electricity and hydrogen, in 2021-2023. Finland has been granted funding within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Transport programme for expanding the recharging network of electric cars.

2.7.2021 | Digirail aims to achieve safe and efficient train operation. Published on 2 July 2021, the Digirail Report provides details of how railway technical systems will be modernised in Finland. The Digirail project is now moving from preparation to practice as digital train control technology is constructed and piloted on the railways.

8.6.2020 | On Monday 8 June, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency will open the auction of the frequencies of the 26 GHz spectrum. This is the second time Finland auctions frequencies for high-speed 5G mobile networks.

The spectrum can be used for wireless broadband nationwide in mainland Finland from the beginning of 2019, and it is well suited for the construction of the first 5G networks in Finland.

4.6.2020 | The Croatian Presidency of the Council of the European Union held an informal video meeting of transport ministers on 4 June. In the meeting, Finland was represented by Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka.

28.10.2019 | The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC) takes place in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt as of 28 October. The conference decides on the future use of radio spectrum. The WRC aims at facilitating rational use of radio spectrum and providing a suitable environment for future services. Finland participates in the decision-making to shape future communications services at a global scale.

22.6.2005 | The Government of Finland has granted an operating licence to build a new digital mobile communications network. Flash-OFDM was chosen as the technology for the network. This is the first time in the world the technology will be taken in extensive use in mobile networks.

9.6.2020 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has granted an extension to the working group examining how to turn the steps taken during the coronavirus crisis into a permanent digital leap forward. The extension was granted until 30 September 2020. During the extension period, the task of the group is to complete the report and draw up an action plan for digitalisation projects to be implemented after the epidemic.

3.2.2021 | On 3 February 2021, the Ministry of Transport and Communications sent a proposal for a government resolution on improving the effectiveness of digitalisation in the logistics sector. The draft resolution outlines the Government's measures concerning the digitalisation of logistics, which will implement the objectives of the Logistics Digitalisation Strategy published in October 2020.

20.5.2020 | The Government has started to lift the restrictions and recommendations imposed due to the corona epidemic. This means that public transport services, too, that decreased during the state of emergency are starting to recover. In the beginning of June, the Ministry of Transport and Communications will organise a forum for transport operators to agree on the ways to ensure the provision of safe public transport services.
