The frequencies are available to the telecom operators for the construction of high-speed wireless 5G networks from the beginning of July. 

19.12.2024 | Finland’s Central Government and other operators are applying for a total of approximately EUR 73.36 million in financial support for 11 transport projects from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport. In addition, EU funding is being sought for the acquisition of a new icebreaker. The Ministerial Finance Committee decided in favour of the applications on 19 December 2024.

20.11.2023 | The World Radiocommunication Conference WRC-23 will start in Dubai on 20 November 2023. The conference decides on the future use of the radio spectrum. The goal is to increase the use of radio frequencies and enable new technologies and services. Finland participates in decision-making at the conference and is globally influencing future communication services to ensure competitiveness and international accessibility.

The prohibition, which was originally set for a fixed term, is proposed to be extended by three years. The Government justifies the extension by the facts that the prohibition is functioning and that misleading sales have decreased.

31.3.2022 | The final report on the action programme on accessibility of digital transport and communication services was published on 31 March 2022. The purpose of the programme, which was completed in 2021, was to improve the accessibility of transport and communications services and to increase the awareness of the importance of accessibility.

3.4.2024 | EU transport ministers will hold an informal meeting in Brussels at the invitation of the Belgian Presidency on 3–4 April. Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will represent Finland at the meeting. No decisions will be made at the informal meeting.

She will meet, among others, representatives of the European Commission. Items on the agenda include topical and future transport and communications initiatives and projects.

5.9.2022 | On 5 September 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Communications sent out an invitation to comment a draft proposal for amending the Act on Electronic Communications Services. According to the proposal, the must-carry obligation would be waived.

7.4.2022 | On 7 April 2022, the Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for amending the Rail Transport Act. The Government proposes that provisions be included in the Act on requirements for a licence to transfer a vehicle and for various test and pilot projects.

The purpose of the proposal is to protect consumers, in particular, against cybersecurity risks that the increasing number of connected devices can generate.
